Leslie's Omnibus

The Campaign Trail

Jeff rounds up the best of thoughts posted by Iraqi bloggers just before and after their elections. It doesn't get any better than this.

Oh, yeah. And go see how Ali went from thinking this to thinking this.

"I dipped it deep as if I was poking the eyes of all the world's tyrants."

Amazing, idn't it?

Smash has more here. I got a little misty-eyed more than once yesterday, too, I'll tell you.

I'm going to let Alaa have the last word on this subject.

Before everyone gets all misty-eyed, let us remember
what Paul Johnson said: "The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance. It is humbling to discover how many of our glib assumptions, which seem to us novel and plausible, have been tested before, not once but many times and in innumerable guises; and discovered to be, at great human cost, wholly false."

Case in point.

Back in full curmudgeonly and skeptical mode, are we? Glad to see you're feeling better!

Feeling better? Oh yeah. Nothing like having a permanent wedgie hard-wired (or super-glued, as the case may be) into one's crotch.
