Two ancient memories dredged up within the last 24 hours:
And...
Jackie Gleason...
What I'm really looking for is the "Harry Vederci" episode of The Honeymooners. Anybody know where I can find it? (And if you know which one I'm talking about, you're officially old.)

Euphemism of the Day:
Quote of the Day:

I've had three -- count 'em, three -- referrals from here today. Why?
Note to the big-mouthed guy who holds our entire train car hostage with your pontifications on everything and nothing every single day of the work week: We're getting quiet cars, pal. Nanny, nanny boo-boo to you!

When parents not only show an interest in their kids, but a commitment to their education, the school system really should pay attention:
I'm 100% in support of these parents. God bless 'em every one for not backing down.

Bomba the Jungle Boy bit the big one? Oh, no! He was a Sunday afternoon favorite of mine growing up!

Sweet Potato Soup with Maple and Bacon? That sounds an awful lot like yummy, yummy comfort food to me!

Just how out of sync with the working public are government employee benefits? Go here to find out. Guaranteed to make your head explode.

When parents not only show an interest in their kids, but a commitment to their education, the school system really should pay attention:
Chicago Public Schools agreed Monday to lease a field house next to Whittier Elementary School to a community group for $1 a year and build a library inside the school. The CPS turned off the heat and the water in the building during night time temperature drops down into the 30's and 40's. The parents hung in there anyway, and the school board was forced to turn them both back on.
The action comes as a group of Pilsen parents continued a sit-in to gain control of the building and convert it into a library to prevent it from being razed.
I'm 100% in support of these parents. God bless 'em every one for not backing down.

Sunday Shows
In the Chicagoland area television pickings were pretty slim on Sunday afternoons, unless you tuned in to shows like the Lone Ranger. Bonus points if you can identify the actor playing young Bob before the credits roll! (Betcha my BlogDaddy gets it first!)

In The Rear-View Mirror
Why I've got Walter Brennan on the brain today, I don't know. But, since I do, you get to share:
One of the strangest musical trios ever:
They sure don't make 'em like they used to!

Overnight I've gone from sounding more than a bit like Mrs. Huffnagle in St. Elsewhere... to Peter Brady in this classic gem:
From pharingytis to laryngitis... just one adventure after another.

Sunday Shows
When I was growing up in Cleveland, we'd race home from church and turn on The Gene Carroll Show on WEWS-TV while the Princess Mom got lunch going. The only YouTube video I could find is not embeddable, but you can see it here. Yes, it really was that bad!
