I can't for the life of me figure out the physics of this incident. Nor can I figure out what a 52 year old woman is doing trying to wear a thong in the first place... _____
GuyK hasn't been keeping up with his Sunday Schooling, so I had to go elsewhere to get my religious fill for the week. _____
Oh, sure. First comes this wonderful news about Blogtoberfest 2008. Then I spot this:
... and think that maybe, just maybe that guy'd been to Blogtoberfest with us and swilled a little too much of the Chatham Artillery Punch. That would explain everything.
(A tip of the cap to John P. I nearly killed myself laughing over this.) _____
What do you want to bet that this guy is related to the guy in the video above?
The verdict is in and R. Kelly is not guilty. I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch over this, because it's not a black celebrity beating the system; it's a prosecutor's office that simply did not do their job well enough. I've been following the trial, and there was plenty of reasonable doubt in there. Sad, but true. _____
I guess money and fame talk, riffraff walk. That's the only explanation for Amy Winehouse not being charged, too. It's a shame, as that chick needs a big time out from her drug habit, and nobody seems willing to put their foot down with her. Jesus! Where's Jamie Spears when you need him? _____
Remember my little rant about Google Health? Seems my uber-smart pal Teresa totally agrees with me, and gives you the scoop in detail about why you should just say no. _____
Don't faint, but I agree with the cab drivers here:
He added, "With what we're already paying for the lease and gas, there's no breathing room. The average driver is starting out every day at least $125 [in the hole]. You know how many hours you have to work to make $125? It's easy for them to sit and mandate this and mandate that. They're not paying for any of this stuff. These people need to take a long hard look at what is real and what is not real."
Look at what's real??? Come on! This is Chicago aldermen we're talking about. _____
That may be true... but the law says that pedestrians have the right of way.
So what happens when drivers assume that custom should hold and pedestrians think that their legal rights protect them?
Patterson reports that there are 3,000 vehicle-versus-pedestrian accidents in Chicago every year. But how many of them are caused by drivers stubbornly failing to yield to pedestrians who are assuming their right to cross the street even though a car is coming?
Look -- I have no defense for pedestrians who can't wait the few seconds it takes for a light to change before they cross a street, or someone who crosses a busy street in the middle of the street where no crosswalks exist.
But if there is a crosswalk, by law drivers are required to yield the right of way. If a pedestrian is crossing in a crosswalk at a lighted intersection, the driver is still legally obligated to yield the right of way.
Take it from one who's been on the receiving end of a front bumper -- whenever there's a doubt, yield to the damned pedestrian, okay?
(Actually, I would. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the acts being committed are between two consenting adults, it doesn't matter whether or not it's my cup of tea -- it only matters whether it's legal, right?) _____
I used to think Hulk Hogan was an amusing guy. Now, I just think he's a train wreck in process.
That's equivalent to the number of germs on 476 toilet seats.
Ick. Just ick.
(A tip of the cap to J-Walk, who's not that far behind me in germage...) _____
Thanks to LawDawg, I just about wet myself over this:
Hmmmm. Maybe these folks have slotted me in with the correct company -- "Stop Right There! Don't You Dare Visit Any of These Awful, Awful Neocon Hate Sites!" -- just because I find videos like this one hilarious. (And I'm honored to be in the august company of that blogroll, BTW.) _____
If the Feds turn Rezko against Blagojevich, Illinois could be the first state to have back-to-back governors in prison at the same time. No state is more suited to this unique accomplishment than Illinois.
Humpfff. The truth in this is just depressing. _____
I like Texas, and loved my visittoAustin. This just breaks my heart. I hope they find the little bastards that did this and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.
This is all the more loony when you consider that one year later we had this little bit of excitement right there in the self-same train station.
Yup. Cameras are dangerous, all right.
I'm finding this particularly frustrating at the moment, as Ogilvy has won some safety award that's in the form a trophy with a huge brass bell... and they've got it in its own special wood and glass case and lit it up like the gates of Heaven opening wide. I'd love to get a photo of this hilariously ostentatious display, but even with a cell phone camera the conductors and security folks freak out ten ways to Sunday.
I'll find a way around this, just you wait and see.
(Some people can suck the fun right out of just about anything.)
If this is true, then I'm never going to age. (In fact, at the rate I'm going, I'm probably reversing the aging process entirely.) Yahoo! _____
No wonder so few people are going into teaching these days. You couldn't pay me enough to go into a classroom like that. Clearly this school is getting what it paid for, too.
I'm SO EXCITED! We're one step closer to winning the bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. (And if we do win that bid, I'll have some room for friends who are fans.) _____
This guy just doesn't get it. He's been thumbing his nose at the Archdiocese for a long, long time, and he finally got spanked. Boo hoo hoo. I'm no fan of Cardinal Francis George, but it's about time he put some teeth into his threats to rein Pfleger in.
If Pfleger had really cared for his congregation, he'd never have opened his big yap.
Hubris. When it comes back to bite you, it really, really hurts.
He forgot his bible verses. Who is it who'll inherit the earth? Surely not Father Pfleger, who wouldn't recognize meek if it jumped up and bit him.
(And I've got to believe that one of Francis George's concerns is that churches who bring politics to the altar tend to get threatened by the IRS for violating the separation of church and state veil.) _____
Today's ear worm is a lovely one:
Lest you think she was a one-note wonder with the ethereal girly stuff, she could also belt out stuff like this:
If that doesn't get you rubber-necking, nothing will!
(And the reason this particular one gets me going is that if you turned the green hair back to blond and added a Barbie tiara with big rhinestones and pink marabou and a matching fairy wand, you'd have my friend Ricky on the occasion of his 50th natal day. No. He didn't get arrested. He did, however, startle the hell out of the Arabic teller at the gas station where we stopped for cigarettes at 3:30 in the a.m.)
