Day 4, and I still haven't had a cigarette. Nope. I didn't plan to quit; it just kind of happened organically.
I've been peeved about the price of a pack of cigarettes (almost $10/pack in the city). I've been peeved about the fact that Virginia Slims seems to have no quality control whatsoever, and one pack never tastes the same as the one before. I've started in on my seasonal smoker's hack. I've been thinking I really ought to quit.
Thursday night I smoked the last one in the pack.
Friday morning I got up, realized I was out of cigarettes and decided that I would try to make it through just one day of not smoking. Friday worked, so I did the same on Saturday. Saturday worked, so I did the same on Sunday. Yes, there's certainly a pull in the middle of my chest from time to time. No, it's not awful. (Yet.)
I must really want to quit this time, as I woke with a start in the middle of the night, realizing that I had inadvertently lit up a cigarette in my dreams and it set off a panic attack.
No patches, no gum, no pills, no excuses. I'm just going to take this one day at a time.

Ultimately, sweetheart, that's the only way to beat an addiction. Take it from a VERY former (as in 25 years ago quit) smoker. And, from what GuyK says, now and again...it works that way for him with alcohol as well. It ain't fun, but it's doable.
That's awesome! I'm so glad you are trying to quit. Now I just have to try to get Dad on the bandwagon with you. Love you,
-Alicia
Good for you! I figure that's probably the way I'll do it...just stop one day.
Maybe. heh
I quit twice- each time because I made the decision to quit. (Each time I started back was because I wanted to, as well.)
It IS a decision. Make up your mind- and it will happen.
I've been 'quit' now for two years. I don't plan to ever go back to smoking.
Love Ya Leslie! And good for you!
Awesome Leslie! I tried quitting a few years ago and made it nine days before I broke down and bought another pack, and then I was back to buying cartons. I used the patch and chewed on straws, but went out drinkin' with the boys one night and that was all it took.
Even after only nine days of not smoking, that first one tasted horrible! Why do we do it to ourselves?
These days, I'll have to quit drinking if I want to quit smoking and I certainly don't want to quit drinking at this time.
Good for you, and good luck sweetie!
It's been 21 months for me and I still get the craving once in a while. But I need only look at Mr Buzz fighting for breath and I never want to smoke again!
I know you can do it and if you need anything you just call, no matter what time, I'm up most of the time now anyway.
Love ya and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas my friend!
If ya feed it, it grows, if ya starve it, it dies. . . eventually!
Good on ya, girl. Besides, it'll help your beautiful singing voice, too. It's all good.
I had to quit carrying cash with me lest I go into a convenience store and come out with a pack of cigs. Keep up the fight!
I've got a pack of girly-cigarettes in my truck, if you need them.
Helpfully,
Mike.
